PRESENTATION OF WAYS TO CLASSIFY CRIME AND CALCULATE CRIME COSTS, INCLUDING A PICTORIAL MODEL AND LIST OF SUGGESTIONS AND REFERENCES TO GUIDE FUTURE WORK.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR PRESENTS CRIME COST CALCULATION AS A COMPLEX PROBLEM INVOLVING MANY DIFFICULT-TO-QUANTIFY VARIABLES. HE CLASSIFIES CRIME INTO FOUR AREAS AND PROPOSES A THREE-DIMENSIONAL CYLINDRICAL MODEL FOR DEPICTING BOTH CRIME TYPE AND SEVERITY. THE BASIC RESEARCH PURPOSE IS STATED AS ONE OF IMPROVING SOCIETY'S ABILITY TO WEIGH THE COSTS OF CRIME AND THE BENEFITS OF CRIME CONTROL, SO THAT THE DESIRABILITY OF CRIME CONTROL MEASURES CAN BE BETTER EVALUATED.
