Abstract
In Unit 1, seven papers review the dynamics of the current state of juveniles and delinquency in the United States. Unit 2 contains seven articles that discuss some of the unanswered questions about why juveniles commit crime; increased violence at some schools is also considered. The five selections in Unit 3 focus on today's youth culture and its impact on society, with attention to drugs, sex, law, policy, and other compounding issues. The interaction between the juveniles who are in gangs or in trouble and the police is addressed in Unit 4's six articles. In Unit 5, six selections examine how juveniles, once apprehended, are processed through the court system. The six articles in Unit 6 discuss what juveniles can expect when they are incarcerated in jail or other type of correctional facility. Unit 7 contains eight articles that consider steps aimed at breaking the cycle of juvenile violence. This book also contains a listing of web sites selected to support the papers presented in each unit. A topic guide and subject index are also provided.
