Abstract
This second edition examines the use of analytical and computer cartography in the field of geographic information systems. Part 1: Computer Cartography, introduces the fields of analytical and computer cartography and discusses the concepts, software, and hardware used in computer mapping. Part 2: The Representation of Cartographic Data includes five chapters that discuss the issues related to capturing cartographic data and structuring the information for representation in digital form. Part 3: Analytical Cartography contains five chapters that present the transformational approach to cartography along with examples of the different types of transformations. Part 4: Producing the Map contains three chapters that deal with two aspects of the final map transformation in which the data and representational techniques are combined with symbols, colors, graphic patterns, and test to produce a map. A computer disk also accompanies the book that contains the computer programs from the text. Appendix and index
