DRIVE TRAIN, BODY, AND INTERIOR DESIGNS AND MODIFICATIONS ARE DISCUSSED FOR COMPACT CARS THAT WOULD BE ECONOMICAL TO OPERATE AND FUNCTIONAL FOR POLICE WORK WHILE KEEPING ADDITIONAL COSTS TO A MINIMUM.
Abstract
THE 1976 DODGE ASPEN WAS CHOSEN FOR A PROTOTYPE, ALTHOUGH OTHER COMPACT MODELS WOULD DO AS WELL. MODIFICATIONS INCLUDE HEAVY-DUTY HARDWARE FOR DRIVE TRAINS, BRAKES, STEERING, AND SUSPENSION; IMPROVED EQUIPMENT STORAGE SPACE; ROOM FOR ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT; A REAR HATCHBACK DOOR WITH A REAR-FACING BACK SEAT FOR DETAINEES; BUCKET SEATS FOR OFFICERS; AND OTHERS. ALTERNATIVE PLANS ARE SUGGESTED FOR DIFFERENT COSTING PACKAGES. SEE ALSO NCJ-34196, 34194, 34193, 34166, AND 34168.
