Analysis of research publications related to alcohol and road safety show that Sweden has the lowest incidence of drunken driving in the world.
Abstract
Sweden ranks 29th in alcohol consumption when ranking is based on population. The Swedish legal system considers drunken driving as a serious problem for road safety and has taken various preventive measures. Success of their program is due to strict legislation and law enforcement, restriction on the availability and price of alcohol, and provision for alternate transport system. 2 figures and one table.
