This report presents the status of evaluation efforts for local alcohol and drug prevention programs at seven pilot sites.
Abstract
The goals for the project included the development of a model evaluation practice for school-based drug prevention and intervention programs, the demonstration of innovative approaches to the evaluation of prevention and intervention programs, and the development of generalizable "model" strategies for the evaluation of these programs. Further, the project is designed to leave in place at each site a framework for continuing the evaluation and will provide data to local practitioners that will promote evaluation methods. The seven sites profiled include five sites that are new and two that are continuation projects. A key element of any nominated site was its commitment to the evaluation task. The sites selected were Berkeley, Calif.; Boise, Idaho; Churchill County, Nev.; Desert Sands, Calif.; Los Angeles, Calif.; Seattle, Wash.; and Spokane, Wash. The report for each site addresses demographics/background, alcohol and other drug program activities, the evaluation approach, preliminary data/results, and next steps. 6 references
