Abstract
Recent European air disasters have emphasized the need for systematic and comprehensive police preparation. After a brief survey of the history and technology of air traffic, the manual explains air laws and regulations as they relate to the police. The chapter on crashes outlines the alerting of police forces, actions at the accident site, the questioning of witnesses, and procedures to determine whether the accident was caused by criminal interference. The chapter on criminal interference advises how airport security and police can work together to prevent or respond to hijackings and terrorist attacks on planes. A separate chapter is devoted to search and rescue operations of missing or disabled planes. The final section explains the use of air vehicles in police work with special emphasis on the helicopter. A glossary and a bibliography are appended.
