The Second United Kingdom Conference on Social Aspects of AIDS was held in 1987 in London to bring together a wide range of researchers with an interest in examining social dimensions of HIV infection and AIDS.
Abstract
Among those present at the conference were educationalists, psychologists, sociologists, and anthropologists as well as representatives from statutory and voluntary sector organizations providing services for those affected by AIDS. The compilation of articles resulting from the conference considers the intellectual agenda of AIDS and cultural, social, and historical aspects of the AIDS pandemic. In addition, the articles deal with undergraduate student beliefs and attitudes about AIDS, AIDS research, the sexual behavior of gay men in response to AIDS, the structure of homosexual acts, marginalized groups affected by AIDS, and health education. Articles also explore methods of drug use, syringe exchange schemes in England and Scotland, and intervention strategies for HIV infection due to intravenous drug use. 290 references, 46 notes, 13 tables, and 4 figures
