These 19 papers present facts about HIV transmission and focuses on the public policy choices facing the criminal justice system as a result of AIDS.
Abstract
The discussions also focus on the risks of AIDS for rape victims, clients of prostitutes, prison inmates, and assault victims. Individual papers explain the incidence of AIDS in the United States and its significance for criminal justice agencies, implications and policy responses for law enforcement officers, mandatory testing and other policy issues relating to female prostitutes, and the limitations of quarantine as a measure for controlling the spread of AIDS. Other papers focus on the prevention of HIV transmission among intravenous drug users, the role of needle exchange programs, ways in which corrections administrators can reduce the risk of HIV transmission in prisons and jails, confidentiality issues in corrections, and issues relating to correctional staff.
