Based on relevant research, the Pinellas County Sherriff's Office (Florida) has purchased a mask called the MTM ventilator for law enforcement and corrections officers to use in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on persons who may be infected with the AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) virus.
Abstract
The MTM ventilator is made of clear plastic with a special blow back valve assembly that prevents vomit and exhalation from being sprayed on the person performing CPR. The mask has a head strap and oxygen inlet that allows oxygen to be introduced into the mask when needed. Masks are located in each control room throughout the jail and in each law enforcement vehicle. This article provides a lesson plan and a lesson plan cover sheet used in the training of officers for the use of the mask.
