These 10 articles are based on a conference held in May 1988 to discuss legal issues related to HIV testing, preventing AIDS discrimination in the workplace, insurance issues, and other aspects of AIDS and HIV, with emphasis on their implications in Oregon.
Abstract
Individual papers focus on the application of the doctrine of informed consent to HIV testing; the role of the criminal justice system in the HIV epidemic; and the need for cooperative efforts by insurers, people with AIDS, the medical community, and the government to resolve problems related to insurance and AIDS. Other articles examine case law and local regulations related to AIDS and other serious contagious diseases in public schools, the role of State and Federal sex and handicap discrimination statutes in addressing AIDS discrimination in the workplace, and the ethical and legal limits of confidentiality regarding HIV test information. Governmental benefits for people with AIDS are also described. Reference lists and notes.
