This booklet presents instructor material for a structured, short-term group workshop with an informational focus for adult survivors of child sexual abuse.
Abstract
Workshop objectives are to provide a structured, supportive group experience of 8 to 10 sessions in which individuals gain information about child sexual abuse and its current and later effects on their lives. The workshop is designed to help participants become aware of the connection between past experiences of abuse and current functioning. Sessions explore what constitutes sexual abuse; what the victim experiences at the time of abuse and later; the rules, roles, and dysfunctions in the family in which incest occurs; issues specific to adults molested as children; and the importance of healing, remembering, and discussing the abuse within a self-help or therapy environment. Mini-lectures are presented to provide information about child sexual abuse to the group members. Individual and group exercises, as well as the full-group discussions, provide opportunities to experience and share emotions. For each session, the book presents session objectives, an outline of the teacher's introduction to the session, material for the mini-lecture, and outlines of the exercises.
