THE DATA OF THIS STUDY ARE PURPORTED TO ATTEST TO THE IMPORTANT ROLE PLAYED BY BOTH PERSONALITY AND PERCEIVED ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS IN ADOLESCENT MARIJUANA USE.
Abstract
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PERSONALITY-ATTITUDINAL VARIABLES AND MARIJUANA USE AMONG 403 WHITE, BLACK AND BRITISH WEST INDIAN ADOLESCENTS WAS EXAMINED THROUGH THE USE OF PERSONAL INTERVIEWS. TWO PROCESSES WERE FOUND TO BE RELATED TO ADOLESCENT DRUG USE: MODELING OF FAMILY AND PEERS, AND SOCIAL CONFORMITY AT THE PERSONALITY, ATTITUDINAL, AND INSTITUTIONAL LEVELS. THE PATTERNS OF RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE PERSONALITY-ATTITUDINAL FACTORS AND ADOLESCENT MARIJUANA USE WERE SIMILAR FOR OLDER AND YOUNGER ADOLESCENTS, MALES AND FEMALES, AS WELL AS ADOLESCENTS IN DIFFERENT ETHNIC GROUPS.(AUTHOR ABSTRACT).
