Recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions uphold the right of schools to maintain discipline and preserve an atmosphere conductive to learning.
Abstract
Some schools across the Nation are plagued by violence and drugs. These schools are not average, but are in areas where the opportunities that education provides are most desperately needed. Factors important for a 'good' school include an effective principal, involved parents, and an environment that enables discussion, tolerance, and respect for diversified views. School districts must honor laws prohibiting discrimination.
