EVALUATION REPORTS ON THE PROGRESS OF A PHILADELPHIA COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAM TO REDUCE THE INCIDENCE OF JUVENILE AND OTHER CRIME.
Abstract
EVALUATORS FOUND THAT THE PROGRAM HAD BEEN CREATIVE IN IMPLEMENTING NEW TECHNIQUES TO FOSTER COMMUNITY RELATIONS AND PARTICIPATION. SOME OF THIS WAS ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH RECREATIONAL AND CULTURAL EVENTS FOR THE COMMUNITY'S YOUTH AND ADULTS. IN A SURVEY OF COMMUNITY OPINION ON THE PROJECT, MOST RESPONDENTS INDICATED THAT THEY THOUGHT THE PROJECT HAD BEEN A BIG SUCCESS. RESIDENTS SAID THEY THOUGHT THE PROJECT HAD HELPED IN CONTROLLING GANG ACTIVITY, KEEPING CITY HALL ON ITS TOES, BOARDING UP OR FIXING UP VACANT HOUSES, AND WORKING WITH SCHOOLS TO GET BETTER EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES....BS
