This paper describes use of the action research model in developing juvenile justice information systems.
Abstract
The action research model is a frame of reference for the development of collaborative research and development by research workers and representatives of juvenile justice and ancillary agencies. It requires a joint effort by the scientist and the policy maker. Specific methods to be used can be determined only after the problem has been more carefully defined in collaboration with potential users of the system. A sequential process of research and action is required as an evolutionary process of continued development. The orientation of action research may be extended to include other aspects of research and social science. The article presents elements of an orientation that might be considered in other contexts, along with suggested guiding conceptions for selecting methods to be used in an action research model development of an information system. The emphasis throughout is on improving rather than proving, on an evolutionary rather than revolutionary process of developing information systems. Notes
