Abstract
The Criminal Justice Act of 1991 abolished unruly certificates for juveniles and replaced them with new criteria for remanding juveniles to custody. Between April and September 1992, 421 juveniles were remanded to custody in England, Wales, and Scotland. Of the 411 remanded to custody in England and Wales, 138 were handled by juvenile courts, 251 by magistrate courts, and 22 by the Crown Court. In October 1992, 92 juveniles were remanded to custody, a slight increase over the number admitted in October 1991. Statistical data on juveniles remanded to custody are provided by geographic area. 13 tables and 1 figure
