THIS BOOK PRESENTS ESSAYS ON SEVERAL BASIC ASPECTS OF THE CONTEMPORARY ACCESS TO JUSTICE MOVEMENT AND ISSUES THAT HAVE EMERGED FROM MULTINATIONAL STUDIES OF INSTITUTIONS AND TECHNIQUES BEING USED.
Abstract
THIS BOOK IS THE THIRD OF FOUR VOLUMES PUBLISHED BY THE FLORENCE, ITALY, ACCESS TO JUSTICE PROJECT, WHICH WAS SPONSORED BY THE FORD FOUNDATION, THE ITALIAN RESEARCH COUNCIL, AND THE ITALIAN MINISTRY OF EDUCATION. A MAIN GOAL OF THE PROJECT WAS TO AID POLICYMAKERS IN DEVELOPING OR REFORMING INSTITUTIONS AND TECHNIQUES BY IDENTIFYING PROBLEMS AND APPROACHES USED IN VARIOUS COUNTRIES AND EXAMINING THEIR GENERAL APPLICABILITY. ASPECTS OF ACCESS TO JUSTICE EXPLORED IN THIS BOOK INCLUDE GENERAL PERSPECTIVES ON TYPES OF POSSIBLE REFORMS, TRADEOFFS BETWEEN GROUP JUSTICE AND INDIVIDUALIZATION, ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF ACCESS TO JUSTICE, THE RELEVANCE OF TRADITIONAL OR POPULAR FORMS OF DISPUTE PROCESSING IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES, THE ORGANIZATION OF THE LEGAL PROFESSION, DELIVERY OF LEGAL SERVICES, AND THE PROBLEM OF HOW TO PROTECT DIFFUSE INTERESTS OF THE PUBLIC OR OF LARGE GROUPS OF PEOPLE BOTH IN COURT PROCEEDINGS AND IN ADMINISTRATIVE AGENCIES.
