Abstract
AFTER COMPLETING THE TRAINING UNIT OF WHICH THIS MANUAL IS A PART, THE LEARNER SHOULD BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE NATURE OF CREDIT AND HOW TO GET IT AND IDENTIFY STEPS FOR ESTABLISHING CREDIT. HE SHOULD BE ABLE TO USE CREDIT WISELY AND RECOGNIZE THE NEED TO SHOP FOR CREDIT AS FOR OTHER PURCHASES. THE MANUAL INCLUDES A LIST OF LEARNING GOALS AND SUBGOALS, DIRECTIONS FOR USING THE MANUAL, UNIT PRETEST AND POSTTEST, ILLUSTRATED STEP-BY-STEP DIRECTIONS FOR ESTABLISHING AND USING CREDIT, REVIEW QUESTIONS, UNIT-TEST KEY, WORD LIST, AND SAMPLE CREDIT APPLICATION FORM. THE MANUAL IS PART OF A CURRICULUM MATERIALS PACKAGE DEVELOPED BY THE AMERICAN CORRECTIONAL ASSOCIATION AS PART OF A DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM, FUNDED BY A LEAA GRANT, WAS IMPLEMENTED IN FOUR LOCAL JAILS IN 1979. TITLED COORDINATED COMMUNITY OFFENDER EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS, IT IS DESIGNED TO INCREASE INMATES' EMPLOYABILITY AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES BY TEACHING CONSUMER AND LIFE SKILLS NEEDED TO COPE IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY AS WELL AS RELATED TO LOCATING AND FINDING EMPLOYMENT. ALTHOUGH DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR ADULT INMATES IN CITY AND COUNTY JAILS, THE PROGRAM CAN BE ADAPTED TO JUVENILE AND TO OTHER TYPES OF INSTITUTIONS. FOR OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE TRAINING MATERIALS PACKAGE, SEE NCJ 63908-63918 AND 63920-63925. (CFW)
