This booklet describes procedures for implementing Florida's school Absentee Reporting Program, which is designed to notify parents or guardians of the nonattendance of their children at school, so as to provide for the immediate search for any missing child.
Abstract
Key components of the program are updated parent telephone numbers and teachers' submission of the names of children with unexplained absences after roll call each morning. This list of student names is given to the assigned staff member or volunteer, who matches it to any absences explained by parents on the school telephone machine. The parents of any children left on the list as unexplained absences are then called. If the parent is not aware of a child's absence, the parent is asked to check all places the child may have gone and is then asked to call the police if the child is not located. A successful program requires full support from school staff and parents. This booklet describes how to set up the program, how to educate parents about the program, and how to address particular problems likely to be encountered. Sample program forms.
