This summer 2013 issue of TechBeat contains five primary articles discussing new technologies aimed at improving law enforcement's technology needs. The first article, Through the Wall: Sensor Technology Can Add Another Tool to the Kit, discusses the use of through-the-wall sensors to detect motion through building walls. The second article, Tweeting Your Way to Better Community Relations, examines the use of social media as a means of humanizing police departments and improving community relations. The third article, Looking for Answers About Less-Lethal Technologies?, examines the lethality of less-lethal immobilization devices. The fourth article, App Tracks Probation and Community Corrections Officers, discusses the use of a smartphone application to track officers in the field in order to improve officer safety and offender management.
