This spring 2011 issue of TechBeat discusses the development of a program that enables law enforcement agencies to proactively plan for active shooter situations. The program was developed by an officer within the Salisbury Township Police Department in Lehigh County, PA. The program trains officers and other law enforcement personnel on how to respond to active shooter situations. A similar training program was also developed for use by school and hospital officials. Participants in the training programs have included administrators from the Township's public schools, administrators from the hospitals within the Lehigh Valley Health Network, and emergency response teams from the Allentown Police Department, the Bethlehem Police Department, and Lehigh County Municipal Emergency.
