The Michigan State Police Vehicle Test Team reports the results of its testing of 14 police vehicles and 7 police motorcycles for the 2015 model year.
The 14 vehicles tested are the Chevrolet Caprice 3.6L and 6.0L; Chevrolet Impala 3.6L; Chevrolet Tahoe 5.3L and 5.3L 4WD; Dodge Charger 3.6 L 2.62, 3.6L 3.08, 5.7 L 2.62, and 5.7L 3.08 AWD; and Ford Pl Sedan 3.5L FWD, 3.7L AWD, 3.5L Ecoboost AWD, Utility 3.7L AWD, and Utility 3.5L Ecoboost AWD. The motorcycles tested are the BMW R1200RTP; Harley Davidson FLHTP (Electra Glide), FLHTP (Road King), FLHTP (Electra Glide) Special; Moto Guzzi California 1400 and Norge 1200; and Can-AM Spyder RTP. All the cars were tested with a clean roof (no overhead light or light bar) and without "A" pillar mount spotlights. Each vehicle was tested with the tires available as original equipment on the production model. Each vehicle model was tested for dynamics, acceleration and top speed, brakes, ergonomics and communications, and fuel economy. Each motorcycle model was tested for dynamics, acceleration and top speed, and braking. Summary evaluation information is provided for each vehicle and motorcycle.
