OJJDP offers a number of training and technical assistance opportunities to assist State and local governments utilize their resources most effectively. Over $150 million in block grants to States and territories will be distributed by OJJDP during fiscal year 2004 through various grants programs, such as Title V Community Prevention Grants and Formula Grants. To ensure States use these funds most effectively OJJDP sponsors training programs such as the Formula Grants Training and Technical Assistance Program, which provides a broad scope of training related to leveraging the Formula Grant funds to produce the most favorable outcomes. OJJDP training focuses on implementing research-based strategies, using best practices, and working efficiently. Other training and technical assistance programs available include the Title V Training and Technical Assistance Program, Missing and Exploited Children Training and Technical Assistance Program, and the Underage Drinking Enforcement Training Center. OJJDP's Juvenile Justice Evaluation Center assists States in evaluating juvenile justice programs and improving program performance. OJJDP's National Training and Technical Assistance Center (NTTAC) provides technical assistance and juvenile justice training information and resources. NTTAC conducts ongoing training evaluation and reviews of technical assistance delivery, provides searchable directories of training and technical assistance resources, and distributes training and technical assistance materials. A listing of new publications available through OJJDP is presented, as well as a listing of online resources, a funding update, news from the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and an announcement for a conference on truancy prevention in Washington, DC in December 2004.
