This NIJ Fact Sheet presents information on NIJ's Compliance Testing Program.
This NIJ Fact Sheet, prepared by the National Law Enforcement and Corrections Technology Center (NLECTC), presents information on NIJ's Compliance Testing Program (CTP). The primary purpose of the CTP is to assess "the performance of commercially available law enforcement and corrections equipment to provide the user community with confidence in knowing that their equipment has been independently evaluated." CTP administers two types of testing programs: Standards-based compliance testing and comparative evaluation programs. Under standards-based compliance testing products are tested in accordance with NIJ voluntary performance standards, while with comparative evaluation programs, products are field tested and the resulting test data is published allowing users to select the products that best suit their needs. The Fact Sheet highlights several products currently undergoing testing, identifies formats under which NLECTC publishes its findings, and different ways in which NLECTC can provide assistance to law enforcement agencies.
