This standardized questionnaire provided by the U.S. Justice Department’s National Institute of Justice (NIJ) to solicit information on the work done by each team participating in NIJ’s Forecasting Recidivism Challenge was completed by Team VT-ISE.
Among the issues addressed in the questionnaire by VT-ISE in its work in the Challenge are 1) the statistically significant variables in recidivism; 2) variables that were not significant; 3) practical/applied findings that could help the field based on the team’s work; 4) variables added by the team to the data set provided by the Challenge; 5) the types and features of models used in calculating recidivism and any modifications made due to gender and race of offenders; 6) any practical/applied findings that could help the field based on the team’s work; and 7) any suggestions from the team for how the Challenge data and material could have facilitated the team’s work in calculating recidivism.
