This report presents data pertaining to the 8 national hits and the 203 New York State offender hits resulting from DNA evidence that was analyzed at the New York State Police Crime Laboratory and uploaded into CODIS (FBI Laboratory's Combined DNA Index System).
Abstract
Grant funds from the Department of Justice were used by the New York Convicted Offender DNA Backlog Reduction Program to analyze 21,207 DNA samples and to upload 19,211 DNA samples into CODIS, the DNA databank. The uploaded samples produced 8 national hits and 203 New York State offender hits. Details of three of the offender hits are offered, which linked one offender to two murders and one rape. After uploading DNA profiles of the evidence collected from all three victims, the DNA databank linked one unknown male offender to all three cases. A DNA specimen was collected from an inmate at a State correctional facility, which was tested and entered into the DNA databank, resulting in matches with the DNA evidence profiles in the three cases described. The remainder of the report presents tables listing the 8 national hits and the 203 New York State offender hits. Tables
