This informational document provides data results from a survey of juvenile corrections facilities on their responses to the novel Coronavirus pandemic of 2020.
This brief document provides data from a survey to understand how juvenile detention and residential facilities responded to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020. The survey was developed and presented by National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and included 1,323 participating facilities. The document describes the survey questions and implementation method, and presents survey results along with a brief discussion. The document provides a chart listing percentages of facilities that performed certain measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including measures such as social distancing; facility access limitation and screening; and testing. More than 1,000 of the 1,323 facilities indicated that they had access to COVID-19 testing, and of those, 61 percent reported that they had tested residents who presented with COVID-19 symptoms, and less than half tested residents who were exposed to confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19.
