This issue provides article updates in the field of criminal justice focusing on the Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, sexual exploitation of children laws, elder mistreatment, reentry programs database, tribal reentry programs for youth, and property crime.
The first article reviews the effects of the $4 billion in U.S. Department of Justice grant funding awarded under the Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The second provides an update on the impact of the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Prevention Act on the prosecution of cases involving the sexual exploitation of children for commercial purposes. The third article announces the release of two new resources from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime to enhance services to victims of elder mistreatment: In Their Own Words: Domestic Abuse in Later Life and Responding to Elder Abuse. The fourth article announces the launching of the online Reentry Programs Database to help policymakers, practitioners, and citizens share innovative programs and promising practices for reentry. Also addressing the issue of reentry, the fifth article describes how three tribes are partnering with local universities to include environmentally sustainable activities in reentry programs for youth in detention. This is made possible through funding from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's (OJJDP) Tribal Juvenile Detention and Reentry Green Program. The fifth and final article announces the Intellectual Property Crime Summit to be held in 2010 in Pasadena, CA. The Summit will offer information on the economic impact of intellectual property crime. The update concludes with a listing of upcoming events, such as trainings, conferences, and meetings from October through December 2010.
