This report describes the features of the Justice Reinvestment Initiative, which is promoted and administered by the Crime and Justice Institute (CJI) as a model for criminal justice reform and guidance based on data analysis that prioritizes the cost-effective use of corrections resources, particularly prisons.
Abstract
The focus in this report is on how various states, through federal grants. Have received services from the CJI and the Pew Charitable Trusts in implementing the model of the Justice Reinvestment Initiative (JRI) in various states to improve criminal justice outcomes, notably in initiating cost-effective uses of incarceration during the COVID-19 pandemic.
