This report poses and answers questions about the features, benefits, and use of the Global Standards Package (GSP), which consists of information-sharing technology standards and guidelines that address messaging architecture, security, privacy requirements, and data standardization.

Abstract

Answers are provided to questions that address the primary components of the GSP; why it is important to implement the GSP; how implementing GSP components can benefit a region, State, county, city, or tribe; whether recipients of grants from the U.S. Justice Department are required to use the components of the GSP; whether grantees are required to implement every element of the GSP ; and who monitors and provides oversight for the GSP. A brief statement about the Global Advisory Committee (GAC) indicates it is a Federal Advisory Committee to the U.S. Attorney General. Through recommendations to the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), the GAC supports standards-based electronic information exchanges that provide justice and public-safety communities with timely, accurate, complete, and accessible information that is appropriately shared in a secure and trusted environment. GAC recommendations support the mission of the U.S. Department of Justice, initiatives sponsored by BJA, and related activities sponsored by BJA's Global Justice Information Sharing Initiative (Global).
