Abstract

This solicitation overview provides grant information and resources for entities that may be interested in funding assistance from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) to receive funding in support of law enforcement agencies’ purchase or leasing of body-worn cameras (BWCs) in order to establish, expand, or enhance a comprehensive BWC program; to create a demonstration project for improving BWC-generated digital evidence management, sharing, and integration; to optimize how prosecutors leverage BWC footage to improve operations; or to use BWC footage to enhance officer training or constitutional policing practices. The overview notes eligible applicants as being: city, township, county, special district, state, and federally recognized Native American tribal governments; independent school districts; public and state-controlled institutions of higher education; public or Indian housing authorities; publicly funded special police forces, including park, school district, transit police, or fish and game enforcement agencies; and more. First-time applicants are also encouraged to apply. The fact sheet provides details on the maximum amount of funding per award and lists examples of strategies or activities that can be funded, as well as where to get more information about the grant opportunity. The document also lists tips for submitting a successful grant application, with details about how and when to apply. It also emphasizes that registration and renewal in the System for Award Management (SAM) may take up to 10 business days.
