One participant researcher is Tracy Waasdorp, Senior Research Scientist, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence. A second participant researcher is Amanda Nickerson, University at Buffalo, Professor and Director of the Alberti Center for Bullying Abuse Prevention. Discussants in the video are Christina Weeter, Kentucky Department of Education, and Mary Poulin Carlton, Social Science Analyst. The webinar was co-sponsored by the U.S. Justice Department's National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and the Federal Partners in Bullying Prevention. The bullying-prevention researchers provide information schools can use in addressing bullying. This includes helping teachers respond to bullying in the classroom and providing students with tools that enable them to be effective in actions to counter bullying. Among the topics discussed are combining social emotional learning (SEL) and technology to improve bullying detection and intervention; why it is important to focus on bullying; student compared with school staff perceptions of bullying; why it is important to train teachers in preventing and responding to bullying; and using the Bullying Classroom Check-Up (BCCU) in detecting and responding to bullying.
