From Trauma to Trust: Police and Community Collaborative Approach

For the past four years, Equal Justice USA has facilitated conversations with police and community members in Newark, New Jersey through Trauma to Trust, a 16-hour training with a goal of fostering mutual understanding between police and community through the lens of trauma. Police and community understand the impacts of historical trauma on Black and Brown communities today, officer trauma, and strategizing trauma-informed community and police responses to violence.

The Equal Justice USA team will discuss its training as part of a larger approach that involves training, capacity building, organizing, and advocacy to foster healing and reduce the harm of violence.
