This workshop is for individuals exposed to traumatic material and situations during the course of their work. The course is taught by a law enforcement officer and a mental health professional with experience working with law enforcement professionals to provide a multidisciplinary approach to mental health and wellness.
It will offer professionals who may have experienced vicarious trauma and who may interact with offenders (for example, law enforcement officers, forensic analysts, prosecutors, probation and parole), the opportunity to learn about the causes and symptoms of negative effects that may occur as a result of their duties and effective mitigation strategies and tools to help them build resilience.
Participants will learn about vicarious stress and trauma, the potential psychological impacts from being exposed to traumatic material during the course of an investigation and explore the signs and symptoms of stress reactions.
The course will discuss identifying resiliency skills, and how to incorporate support from others, such as family, colleagues and mental health professionals as a proactive approach to wellness.
