COLLECTION OF ARTICLES ON SUBCULTURAL DIMENSIONS, THE COMPLEX OF SOCIAL VARIBLES, AND THE CAUSES AND CURES OF YOUTHFUL REBELLION.
Abstract
THE FIRST SECTION OF THIS DOCUMENT PRESENTS FOUR ARTICLES ON THE SUBCULTURAL DIMENSIONS OF REBELLIOUS YOUTH. TOPICS COVERED INCLUDE LIFESTYLES, COUNTERCULTURAL ATTITUDES TOWARD THE POLICE, AND SUBCULTURAL VALUES. THE COMPLEX OF SOCIAL VARIABLES ASSOCIATED WITH YOUTHFUL REBELLIOUSNESS IS THE SUBJECT OF THE SECOND SECTION. EACH OF THE EIGHT ARTICLES IN THIS SECTION IDENTIFY YOUTHFUL REBELLION AS A PROTEST OR REVOLT AGAINST THE LARGER SOCIETY. THE AUTHORS OF THESE ARTICLES DISCUSS VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THIS REVOLT, SUCH AS THE STYLE OF THE REBELLION (CLOTHING, VALUES, ETC), THE UNIFORMITY OF THE REBELLION, AND THE INNER TURMOIL EXPERIENCED BY REBELLIOUS YOUTHS. COMMENTS ARE THEN MADE ON THE CAUSES AND CURES FOR YOUTHFUL REBELLION. INCREASING HEDONISM, AFFLUENCE, AND PEER GROUP PRESSURES ON YOUTHS TO VALIDATE THEIR CLAIMS TO MATURITY ARE AMONG THE CAUSES DISCUSSED. ONE AUTHOR NOTES THAT SINGLE-FACTOR CAUSATION MODELS ARE SIMPLISTIC, WHILE MULTI-FACTOR MODELS REQUIRE A PRIORITY OF CAUSALITY. THE LAST TWO ARTICLES IN THIS SECTION DEAL WITH CURES AND OFFER SUGGESTIONS SUCH AS FURNISHING YOUTHS WITH A SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN SOCIETY.
