THIS SERIES OF FIVE FILMSTRIPS AND AUDIOCASSETTES AIMED AT TEENAGE AUDIENCES EXPLORES THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LAWS AND THE POLICE, YOUTHFUL OFFENDERS, DISSENTERS, JUDGES, CRIMINAL SUSPECTS, AND AVERAGE CITIZENS.
Abstract
THE ASSORTED MATERIALS EXAMINE THE RIGHTS OF CRIMINAL SUSPECTS BY FOLLOWING A SUSPECTED BURGLAR THROUGH THE LEGAL PROCESS FROM ARREST AND TRIAL TO DISPOSITION FOLLOWING THE JURY'S VERDICT, DETAIL A TYPICAL DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE, AND OUTLINE THE POSTARREST PROCEDURES COMMONLY APPLIED TO JUVENILES WITH A HISTORY OF DELINQUENCY WHO ARE ARRESTED FOR AN ADULT CRIME SUCH AS AUTO THEFT. FURTHER, TO ILLUSTRATE THE POLICE ROLE AND ACCOMPANYING PROBLEMS AND RESPONSIBILITIES, A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN AVERAGE PATROL OFFICER IS EXAMINED, AS ARE THE RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS OF AVERAGE CITIZENS WITH RESPECT TO CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND THEIR ROLE IN PERSONAL, BUSINESS, AND CONSUMER MATTERS. THE CONSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT FOR DISSENT AND PEACEFUL PROTEST IS ALSO UNDERSCORED. SEE ALSO NCJ 51759-51763. (KBL)
