Finding effective treatment models for youth in the juvenile justice system with serious emotional, mental health, and behavioral needs can be difficult. The Wraparound Milwaukee program offers care that is tailored to each youth taking an integrated, multi-service approach to meeting the needs of youth and their families.
Abstract
Created in 1994, Wraparound Milwaukee promotes integrated service systems for youth operating across the mental health, juvenile justice, child welfare, and education systems. It offers an innovative and cost-effective approach and an alternative to punitive approaches to juvenile violence and delinquency. Fundamental elements of Wraparound are: a strength based approach to children and families; family involvement in the treatment process; needs-based service planning and delivery; individualized service plans; and outcome focused approach. A review of the program’s process and approach, implementation, outcomes, and future effectiveness are described. References.
