Abstract
THIS DOCUMENT SUMMARIZES SEVERAL INVESTIGATIONS OF WORKPLACE CRIME MADE BY THE NATIONAL COUNCIL ON CRIME AND DELINQUENCY AND OTHERS, REVIEWS AN OCTOBER 1975 CHICAGO SEMINAR ON INTERNAL BUSINESS THEFT, AND SETS OUT STEPS TO COUNTERACT WORKPLACE CRIME. DISCUSSED ARE THE COSTS, CAUSES, CHARACTERISTICS, AND SANCTIONS CONNECTED WITH WORKPLACE CRIME AND THE DIFFICULTIES IN DEFINING WORKPLACE CRIME. ALSO SUGGESTED ARE STEPS BUSINESSES, GRADUATE SCHOOLS, ORGANIZED LABOR, THE WORKERS, THE LEGAL PROFESSION, GOVERNMENT, THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND STOCKHOLDERS CAN TAKE TO REDUCE THIS TYPE OF CRIME.
