Designed to accompany the "Guidebook for Crime Victim Advocates: Working With Grieving Children After Violent Death," this instructor's guide provides training information and guidance for the provision of training to crime victim advocates in working with grieving children after the violent death of a loved one.
Abstract
The topics covered include introductions and orientation to the training conference, an overview of training techniques and skills, information on how children experience traumatic grief, caregiver preparation for working with grieving children, death notification for children and adolescents, and methods of intervention in working with children. Other topics are principles of intervention in working with grieving children, training presentations by participants, and a clinic for grieving children. Information for instructors in presenting the various topics addresses suggested "running time"; materials needed; equipment needed; training objectives; glossary of terms; special notes (helpful hints for instructors); content (information to highlight from the guidebook); additional resources; and a step-by-step guide on how to make the presentation. Handouts provided relate to principles of public speaking and group facilitation; death notification; death notification sample role-play scenarios; and samples of a clinic invitation, participation consent (waiver form), and registration form.
