This report describes activities of Georgia courts during fiscal year 1997.
Abstract
The Georgia Judicial Branch accomplished the following: (1) launched its Juvenile Advocacy Division to provide support and consultation to attorneys and guardians ad litem representing clients in juvenile court proceedings; (2) began the work of the Senate Study Commission on Civil Justice, which is to determine whether reforms to the civil justice system are necessary and, if so, what specific reforms are recommended; (3) established the Georgia Supreme Court home page on the World Wide Web; (4) adopted new guidelines to help non-English speakers in Georgia's courts; (5) installed in Baldwin County a prototype of the Automated Justice Information System to link superior, State, juvenile and magistrate courts, offices of the clerks of courts, district attorney and solicitor general, and connect to the county sheriff's case-management system; and (6) held the first meeting of the Pro Se Litigation Committee, which will report on the status of pro se litigation in Georgia and types of assistance given by other States, and will provide information for judges and guidance for court staff in assisting such litigants.
