DEVELOPMENTS IN KNOWLEDGE CONCERNING WHITE AND BLACK FEMALE POLICE OFFICERS AS REPORTED AT THE 1974 AND 1975 WORKSHOPS ON WOMEN IN POLICING OF THE NATIONAL BLACK POLICE ASSOCIATION CONVENTION ARE DISCUSSED.
Abstract
AMONG THE AREAS EXAMINED WERE PATROL EFFECTIVENESS, JOB ASSIGNMENTS, UNIFORMS, MALE/FEMALE PARTNERS AND OTHER TOPICS. THE WORKSHOPS SERVED TO ILLUSTRATE THAT THE MOST CONTROVERSIAL TOPIC ON WOMEN IN POLICING IS WHETHER OR NOT THE FEMALE CAN ADEQUATELY PERFORM PATROL FUNCTIONS. SEVERAL STUDIES ARE CURRENTLY UNDERWAY TO RESOLVE THIS QUESTION.
