TABULAR DATA ARE PROVIDED FOR ADULT AND JUVENILE MALE AND FEMALE PROBATION AND PAROLE TERMINATIONS IN WISCONSIN FOR 1977.
Abstract
A TOTAL OF 9,105 PERSONS (8,277 ADULTS AND 828 JUVENILES) WERE REMOVED FROM PROBATION AND PAROLE CASELOADS DURING 1977. SUPERVISION WAS TERMINATED EITHER BECAUSE THE TERM OF PROBATION, PAROLE, OR AFTERCARE WAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED OR BECAUSE SUPERVISION WAS REVOKED FOR LAW OR RULES VIOLATIONS. A TOTAL OF 6,053 ADULT MALE PROBATIONERS AND 1,121 ADULT MALE PAROLEES WAS TERMINATED DURING 1977. PROBATIONERS COMPLETED SUPERVISION SUCCESSFULLY IN 9 OUT OF 10 CASES; PAROLEES IN 77 PERCENT OF THE CASES. EMPLOYMENT, INCOME, AND MARITAL TIES WERE APPARENTLY RELATED TO SUCCESS OR FAILURE OF PROBATION OR PAROLE. A TOTAL OF 1,037 ADULT FEMALE PROBATIONERS AND 63 ADULT FEMALE PAROLEES WERE REMOVED FROM SUPERVISION IN 1977. NINE OUT OF 10 WOMEN SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED SUPERVISION. WOMEN WHO WERE EMPLOYED ON EITHER A FULL OR PART-TIME BASIS WHILE ON PAROLE WERE SUCCESSFUL IN ALL CASES. THE PERCENTAGE OF ADULT WOMEN SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING SUPERVISION WAS HIGHER THAN THAT OF ADULT MEN, ESPECIALLY AMONG PAROLEES. A TOTAL OF 200 JUVENILE MALE PROBATIONERS AND 524 MALE JUVENILE AFTERCARE CASES WERE TERMINATED IN 1977. BOYS ON PROBATION WERE SUCCESSFUL IN 8 OUT OF 10 CASES; THOSE ON AFTERCARE IN 7 OUT OF 10 CASES. A TOTAL OF 33 JUVENILE FEMALE PROBATIONERS AND 71 FEMALE JUVENILE AFTERCARE CASES WERE REMOVED FROM SUPERVISION. PROBATIONERS WERE TERMINATED SUCCESSFULLY IN 8 OUT OF 10 CASES, WHILE THOSE REMOVED FROM AFTERCARE WERE SUCCESSFUL IN 7 OUT OF 10 CASES. (RCB)
