This article is a practitioner’s guide to security planning for high-profile campus guests.
Abstract
The author begins the discussion with several examples of campus security problems. Several security tools and techniques are discussed including the development of an internal dignitary protection unit. Officers selected for such a unit will be expected to receive additional training and to perform liaison duties with off-campus safety and security personnel such as the local police or Federal law enforcement as necessary. The author further provides advice regarding the duty of campus police to protect attendees at a high profile event. Guidelines for the number of officers to be assigned are presented in tabular form and a security needs assessment tool is also provided. Photographs, 2 figures
