THIS BOOKLET DESCRIBES THE BACKGROUND, ORIENTATION, PROGRAMS AND PUBLICATIONS OF THE ABA COMMISSION ON CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES AND SERVICES, AND PROVIDES INFORMATION ON OTHER NATIONAL REFORM GROUPS.
Abstract
THE ABA CORRECTIONS COMMITTEE IS AN ACTION-ORIENTED NATIONAL GROUP WHICH ACTS AS A CATALYST FOR OTHER PUBLIC SERVICE AND PROFESSIONAL GROUPS, AND SUPPORTS AND MAINTAINS TIES WITH THE MAJOR ASSOCIATIONS OF THE CORRECTIONS PROFESSION. AMONG THE ACTION PROJECTS OF THE COMMISSION DESCRIBED IN THIS BOOKLET ARE THE PAROLE AID PROJECT, THE EMPLOYMENT RESTRICTIONS CLEARINGHOUSE, THE CORRECTIONAL LAW CENTER, THE BAR ACTIVATION PROJECT, THE CORRECTIONAL OFFICER EDUCATION PROJECT, THE OFFENDER LITERACY CLEARINGHOUSE, AN ATTICA DOCUMENTARY FILM, AND A MODEL LEGISLATION HANDBOOK. CORRECTIONS REFORM EFFORTS OF OTHER ABA GROUPS SUCH AS THE CRIMINAL LAW SECTION OR THE COMMISSION ON DEVELOPMENT OF JUVENILE JUSTICE STANDARDS ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. FINALLY, THE WORK OF STATE AND LOCAL BAR ASSOCIATIONS AND OTHER NATIONAL REFORM GROUPS IS DISCUSSED. SUGGESTIONS FOR CITIZEN PARTICIPATION IN CORRECTIONAL REFORM ARE PROVIDED.
