This article suggests security management measures that can improve a security staff's attention to performance and outlines perceptual causes of inattention.
Abstract
Inattention to security observations and correct interpretation of observations may be the bias of individual needs, avoidance reactions, 'halo' effects (conclusions based on limited observation or experience), constancy, burnout, observational arrogance, and focus. Management can counter these perceptions by an organizational structure that rewards alert and effective performance, by setting clear standards for performance, and by eliminating environmental distractions. 11-item bibliography.
