Questions and concerns that arise when cocaine affects loved ones are addressed, and sources for information and assistance are provided.
Abstract
Cocaine, its use, and physical and emotional indications are described. Special risks for families of intravenous cocaine users, such as the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection that causes AIDS are discussed. The addictive mechanism which drives abusers, the cost of maintaining the cocaine habit, and the problems family members must face are explained. Signs that cocaine is becoming a family problem are outlined, and sources for more information and support groups for families with cocaine problems are provided.
