A DESCRIPTION OF THE SCOPE, MISSION, AND GOALS OF THE NATIONAL CRIME PREVENTION INSTITUTE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE, WHICH HAS TRAINED POLICE OFFICERS FROM ACROSS THE NATION IN THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF PREVENTION.
Abstract
THE INSTITUTE HAS ADOPTED THREE PREVENTION CATEGORIES, CONSISTING OF PUNITIVE, CORRECTIVE, AND MECHANICAL. THE IMPORTANCE OF MECHANICAL PREVENTION IS STRESSED, ON THE GROUND THAT EVEN IF CRIME DISPLACEMENT OCCURS, THE CRIMINAL IS LIKELY TO BE FORCED INTO LESS FAMILIAR GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS OR CRIME CATEGORIES, AND THUS FACES A GREATER RISK OF APPREHENSION.
