Abstract
A POLICE ADVISORY COMMISSION WAS APPOINTED TO STUDY POLICE NEEDS IN THE STATE. REPORT LOOKS AT RECRUITING AND SELECTION FOR EMPLOYMENT OF OFFICERS AT ALL STATE LEVELS, AND GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF OFFICERS. TABULATED STATISTICS PRESENT TRENDS IN LAW ENFORCEMENT EMPLOYMENT, EMPLOYMENT BY POSITIONS, MANPOWER NEEDS, WORKING CONDITIONS AND WAGES, AND TRAINING. RECOMMENDATIONS OF THIS COMMISSION AND A PROPOSED STANDARDS AND TRAINING COMMISSION ACT ARE PRESENTED. APPENDICES CONTAIN SUMMARIES OF POLICE TRAINING SCHEDULES, PROPOSED BASIC TRAINING COURSES, MUNICIPAL BUDGETS AND POLICE COSTS.
