Abstract
INFORMATION ON FORCE ADMINISTRATION AND ORGANIZATION PERTAINS TO PERSONNEL RECRUITMENT, PROMOTIONS, CAREER DEVELOPMENT, COMPLAINTS AGAINST POLICE OFFICERS, AS WELL AS TO THE STRUCTURE AND STRENGTH OF THE REGULAR FORCE. A NET LOSS OF 22 OFFICERS DURING THE YEAR IS VIEWED WITH CONCERN. THE VARIOUS TRAINING COURSES OFFERED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR ARE LISTED AND DESCRIBED BRIEFLY. CRIME STATISTICS FOR THE YEAR ARE TABULATED ACCORDING TO OFFENSE, AND AN INCREASE OF 23.2 PERCENT OVER THE 1976 FIGURE IS NOTED WITH ALL OFFENSE CATEGORIES RISING. THE ACTIVITIES OF EACH UNIT AND BRANCH OF THE FORCE DEALING WITH CRIME PREVENTION AND INVESTIGATION ARE DESCRIBED, AND THE NUMBER OF PERSONS PROCESSED FOR VARIOUS TYPES OF INDICTABLE AND NONINDICTABLE OFFENSES IS INCLUDED. STATISTICS AND INFORMATION RELATING TO TRAFFIC AND ROAD SAFETY SHOW AN INCREASE OF 16 PERCENT IN THE NUMBER OF ACCIDENTS AS COMPARED TO THE PREVIOUS YEAR. OPERATIONS OF THE VARIOUS SYSTEMS WITH IN THE COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT ARE REPORTED. BUDGETARY RESTRICTIONS ON CAPITAL EXPENDITURES HAVE REDUCED GREATLY THE NUMBER OF BUILDING PROJECTS, AND EMPHASIS IS ON KEEPING PRESENT BUILDINGS REASONABLY FURNISHED, DECORATED, AND MAINTAINED. MAJOR ATTENTION IS GIVEN TO FORCE ACTIVITIES CONCERNING THE WELFARE OF POLICE OFFICERS. THE NUMBER OF LICENSES ISSUED FOR VARIOUS ENTERPRISES IS PROVIDED, AND FURTHER MISCELLANEOUS ACTIVITIES OF THE FORCE ARE DESCRIBED. (RCB)
